Gaming graphics are changing faster than perhaps ever before.
Higher resolutions, ray tracing and AI-based image calculation have long been part of everyday life in modern games.
Now Nvidia is taking the next step.
With DLSS 5, the company is further developing its AI-supported graphics technology.
DLSS stands for Deep Learning Super Sampling.
The basic goal is comparatively simple:
A game should look better and at the same time run as smoothly as possible.
Instead of classically calculating every pixel of a high-resolution image, a game can first be rendered at a lower internal resolution.
An AI model then reconstructs a higher-resolution image.
Frame Generation allows additional images to be created between actual rendered frames.
This may increase the displayed frame rate.
AI systems are increasingly receiving information from the actual game engine.
This can include geometry, materials and lighting information.
More graphics quality usually requires more processing power.
Technologies like DLSS attempt to break this connection.
Anyone who has ever changed 25 graphics options just to get six more FPS will probably be familiar with the problem.
