Mourning “Morgenmän Franky”: Radio Legend Frank Schambor Dies at 54

Northern Germany's radio community is mourning the loss of one of its most recognizable voices. Frank Schambor, widely known as “Morgenmän Franky”, died unexpectedly on September 3, 2026, at the age of 54.

Almost a quarter of a century on morning radio

Frank Schambor was born on October 13, 1971, in Wuppertal, Germany. He began his radio career with the NDR youth station N-JOY, where he hosted several programs between 1995 and 1999.

In 1999, he joined radio ffn in Hannover. He quickly became known as “Morgenmän Franky” and remained one of the defining voices of the station's morning programming for more than two decades, until his departure in 2021.

For many listeners in Lower Saxony, Franky's voice became part of their daily routine. Radio ffn remembered him as one of the station's most influential voices, accompanying hundreds of thousands of people while they woke up, traveled to work or school, or simply had their first coffee of the day.

More than radio

Franky was not only a radio presenter. After leaving radio ffn, he continued working as a presenter, DJ and entertainer.
